Guidelines for Speakers at ACCJ Events

Thank you for your contribution to ACCJ events!

These guidelines are sent to all ACCJ speakers. Please do your best to follow them to help make the event a success and rewarding for all participants.

If you have any questions, please contact the ACCJ Programs Department, who will be happy to help.

Before the Event
When you are invited to speak at an ACCJ event, the committee chair or other ACCJ contact person will ask you to select a topic for your talk as quickly as possible. The committee chair will then communicate this to the ACCJ office to allow our staff to start promotional efforts.

Please note the following:

  • Please do not begin work on your presentation until you and the committee chair agree on the topic.

  • Please avoid actively engaging in self-promotion unless the agreed-upon topic is to market your organization or business.

  • The material that you present should be original to you, or you should have permission to use it.

  • Please be sure to focus your presentation on the topic or theme described in the title of the presentation and the event description. If you need to change the topic of your presentation, please notify the committee chair as quickly as possible.

  • Your audience expects useful strategies, insights, facts, and a full discussion of your chosen topic. All ACCJ events aim to convey relevant and compelling business knowledge to our members. Members especially appreciate learning new information not available elsewhere. At the same time, members become resentful if they feel that a speaker is delivering the same presentation that is also being delivered at several other venues in the same time frame. Thus, speakers are encouraged to keep their remarks fresh.

Presentation Materials
All speakers are expected to develop their own presentation materials. Unfortunately, the ACCJ does not have sufficient staff resources to enable us to assist in this process. Once you have decided on which presentation format you will use, please let your ACCJ contact know so we can arrange to have the appropriate equipment available for your presentation.

Uncompensated Basis
The ACCJ is fortunate to host a variety of talented and interesting speakers to address its members and committees every year. While any meals or refreshments served at the event are provided to its speaker with our compliments, the ACCJ cannot pay honoraria, or travel or commutation expenses to its speakers.

Getting started
Download the Speaker Preference Form (Word DOC) to help you get started with your event. Please fill out the form and attach designated materials to your ACCJ contact.
