Miles to Go and Promises Unkept: Women’s Rights in Post-War Japan

Vicki Beyer has written an informative article about Beate Sirota Gordon, the pioneering woman who served with the US Forces in Japan, and was the architect of clauses in the Japanese Constitution promoting women's rights.

It's a great read, showing the struggles she had to incorporate some very progressive thinking at the time.

The article notes that the US side vetoed a number of Gordon’s ideas, one of the reasons being: "this isn't even in the US constitution".
